My name is Sylvia Appiah, the founder of Going Local Travel Company. Going Local Travel Company was inspired by an internship I completed at a travel agency in Amsterdam. Whenever I was bored, I would look into travel brochures and read to see what kind of tours and destinations travel companies were offering to people. I saw that Africa, especially West-Africa was not represented as to how I knew Africa to be.

Born as a Dutch Ghanaian, I knew from an early age that Africa was more than huts and animals, wars, and poverty such as the media would portray. I knew that Africa was one of the richest continents full of natural resources, culture and traditions. Africa deserves to be portrayed in it’s true excellence, through the eyes of locals who call Africa home.

Through Going Local Travel Company, we want travelers to be educated about the country they are visiting. We want to inspire travelers to forge meaningful connections and relate positively with the locals in the country they are visiting. Through our service offerings, we aim to create authentic African experiences that travellers will never forget.
